Brad  Wiggs -Assistant Coach

                                                           

Coach Wiggs returns for his 10th season with the Maurader basketball program.  Wiggs teaches math and Accounting at the Boron High School and has a Masters Degree in education from Chapman College.  

 

Coach Wiggs was the head coach of Boron High School and made the playoff 8 of 9 years he coached.  His 1984-85 team won the CIF Small Schools Championship.

 

Wiggs is a well known scout of local basketball talent.


      

 

Coach Michael Rios is the second assistant coach for Antelope Valley.  Rios has been the Academic Advisor for the AVC sports program for the past two years and has done and outstanding job. 


Rios came to AVC from Hawthorne High School in the Los Angeles area where he was a two time Coach of the Year

Coach  Rios comes to Antelope Valley College with a wealth of success as a head coach and a solid set of contacts in the basketball rich Los Angeles basin.  Along with his outstanding basketball knowledge and experience, Coach Rios has a Masters Degree in Academic Counseling.  Rios adds not only a plethora of basketball acumen but also an academic bent to the program.

 


 

Tim Atkerson, joined AVC after winning CIF championship this past year at Rosamond High School.  Atkerson has a long history of coaching success.

Spent 10 years as the head coach at Rosamond High School. Won 8 league championships. League record is 85-17 (.833). Advanced to the play-offs nine times and reached the Final Four, 2 CIF Championship games with a CIF Championship Title in 2008. Averaged 18 wins a year while at Rosamond High School going 180-66 during the ten years. Has previously served as an Athletic Director for 2 years and has held numerous leadership positions.

Spent 3 years as an assistant coach at Antelope Valley College under Hall of Fame coach Newton Chelette. During the 3 years at AVC the Marauders went 70-31 with two Foothill Conference championships and one state Final Four appearance.

In his 13 years of coaching either as a head or assistant, the teams are 250-97 with 10 conference championships.

Comes from a basketball family. Has an uncle who was an assistant at Duke University for Coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Holds a BS Degreee from UNLV(1994) and a MA Degree from Azusa Pacific (1999).

 

Tim is well known through out the southern California area for his recruiting, coaching, and leadership skill  and this will strengthen Head Coach Dieter Horton already strong staff.
